The Senegal Dolphin is an unknown cetacean saw near coasts of West Africa.Seen in great numbers off the coast of Senegal by Willem Mörzer Bruyns. Length, 6 feet. Brown above, distinctly white below. Similar to the pantropical spotted dolphin but lacking its characteristic spots.

Possible explanationsEdit

  • Significant variations in the markings of the Pantropical spotted dolphin (Stenella attenuata) are known to occur both individually and geographically. Confusion also occurs with the Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), the Atlantic hump-backed dolphin (Sousa teuszii ), and the Atlantic spotted dolphin (Stenella frontalis), which may also have spotting.
