These bizarre bovine-like creatures were said to have visages so horrible that just one glance by an expectant mother would illicit enough terror to disfigure the unborn baby in her womb.

Also known as the Huallipen or Guallipen, these amphibious animals are said to haunt the lakes and rivers of Chili. Described as having the head of a young calf attached to the body of a shorn sheep, with short front legs and a back end that resembles a seal, this beast’s name derives from the Mapuche word “Wallipén,” which translates as “sheep-calf.”

The eyewitness accounts of these creatures seem to resemble, at least in a rudimentary fashion, reports of both British water-horses and the Australian Bunyip, indicating that these animals may in fact be water dwelling mammals or rogue (and violent) sub-species of pinniped .

As if to enhance the correlation between the Huallepen and its European cousins, this ordinarily shy beast (which is virtually harmless on land) is said to reveal a vicious disposition when encountered in its aquatic environment. This beast is also reportedly able to mate with either sheep or cattle, creating bizarre hybrid offspring. This is a trait which is often attributed to the Kelpies as well as the Tarbh-Uisge

Some researchers have even suggested that there may be some correlation between this animal and Hueke-Hueke’ as well as the notorious El Cuero (the name of which literally translates into “The cow-hide”) – although they may simply be different species sharing a similar habitat.

Much like the unfortunate eyewitnesses, it was also reported that pregnant mothers unlucky enough to have dreams of these creatures on three consecutive nights would experience terror so profound as to cause physical deformations in their unborn children.

Huallepen has the body of a sheep and the head of a calf with twisted feet. It lives in pools and frequently mates with other herded animals. The offspring it produces have twisted muzzles and legs. If pregnant women go near this beast then their child will be born with twisted legs and muzzles.
